Ok here goes finally get started on this blog. Our smallholding is indeed small with only 7 and half acres and little financil assistance the first few years have been hard. We use organic practices, and have volunteers help through the summer as without a tractor the acre + of veg growing requires a lot of energy, and manual labour.
Our large black pigs clear the veg patches and we grow a selecton of veg for ourselve and for events. We found that people llke to have cornish produce at their wedding, parties and the odd small festival! We essentially started with hog roasts and have progressed to doingour own salads, veg etc along side this as well as local fish menu's game menu's and even vegi menu's. Only having a couple of goats means goats cheese is not mass produced but will be added to menu in 2011.
Our traditional recipe sausages are fast getting a reputation and we sell these to locals and passers by, as well as our top quality pork, ham bacon, chickens, ducks, geese, eggss and any veg not being used at events although this is summer only.
We have been doing this from an old shed on a friday and saturday, this is currently experiencing a tidy up and will be a far more pleasant exerience for visitors this year. Also we hope to do sme hanging baskets and local cheeses. We also are lucky enough to have a pitch at our village farmers market that will hopefully be the first saturday of each month after feb 2011.
Right now though I need to work out how to stop the fox from eating our chickens, rudolph is the latest victim RIP rudolph x
